We spent most of our time at the airport in Stead racing on the 1/8 mile drag strip set up by the Hot August Nights commitee.  Friday I ran in the Super Eliminator class of the bracket racing with the faster cars and had no luck.  My sister ran in the Eliminator class with the slightly slower cars and to win the whole thing.  They gave her a trophy and everything.  We got to the "track" too late to enter the burnout contest that day but made sure not to miss it the next.

The burnout contest, we really only had one competitor...the 70's style camaro (Mullet Camaro) driven by an old man with a lot more money (he did his burnout on slicks). Kevin went first and did the best burnout of his life.  He ended up tapping the wall and driving off the track with the fender and bumper digging into the front tire.  The burnout smoke was blowing down the track in front of us instead of behind us, so the visibility was really bad.  The flagger telling us when to start and stop couldn't been seen through it.

My burnout was with an old set of 205/60/15 T/A radials with almost full tread.  After 10 seconds and riding out the burnout I headed for the wall...missed it, backed up and finished the rest of the track with a much smaller burnout.  By the time I got back to the pits the tires were bald and I almost poped one of them.
Once everyone was done with their burnouts we went back out onto the track and lined up so the crowd could cheer us on and help the "announcer" choose who would walk away with first and second place.
First place prize was to be $50 and a hand shake, Second place was to win a shirt and a hat.
Turns out it was a "tie" between a coupe, Kevin and I...just a way to drag the winning process out, maybe if they just awarded the winners' their prizes then towards 8pm they wouldn't have been spazing to get the races finished.
1st place went to Kevin in the 64 Nova, he won $50 and a shirt and hat from 1999 "participant" it read.
Chris came runner up (2nd place) and received the same "participant" from 1999 shirt and hat.  The break between the awards and the bracket racing was spent answering questions about my engine set up.
