Bullitt County was formed in 1797 from Jefferson and Nelson Counties. In 1824, a portion was taken off to form Spencer County. It is located in the Western Knobs region of the state. Major communities include; Mt. Washington, Taylorsville, Lebanon Junction, Clermont, Brooks, Pioneer Village, Hillview and Zoneton. The county is bordered by the Ft. Knox Military Reservation and Hardin, Jefferson, Spencer, Nelson Counties. The City of Shepherdsville was founded in the late eighteenth century by Adam Shepherd on the Salt River. It was chartered in 1793. The Shepherdsville post office opened in 1806.
