Bangkok: A large city located in the central plains of Thailand, Bangkok is the nations capitol. Bangkok is considered a fast-paced and sometimes frantic city, but often a lazy and laid-back city. Bangkok is most known for it’s nightlife – lots of clubs and popular restaurants, and for Thai Boxing which is centered in the city. Japanese students that want to eat at nice restaurants and party all night would love this city.

Phuket: A large city located on the southern peninsula. Phuket is a very popular city for snorkeling and scuba diving. If Japanese students are looking forward to swimming, sailing, relaxing on the beach, and exploring Thailand’s natural surroundings, then this is the place to go. Also, Phuket is a moderately large city with a large downtown shopping area. I think it would appeal to the students because there aren’t many cities fashioned this way in Japan.

Chiang Mai: A large city located in the mountainous north of Thailand. This city is centered around it’s Doi Inthanon National Park. The park is 1,005 square kilometers, and considered the countries most aspiring natural wonder. Also, Chaing Mai is great for shopping, and just relaxing. If Japanese students are into hiking and nature, then they would like this city, but if they wanted to go somewhere to party and go out all night, then they wouldn’t like it.

Chaing Rai: A small city located in the north of the country. The Doi Laung National Park, home of the huge Nam Tok Pu Kaeng waterfall, is located just outside the city. Chaing Rai is also famous for The Golden Triangle (three-way border) and for The Chiang Saen National Museum. Once again, Japanese students would like this city if they were into nature and hiking; otherwise, it isn’t the best place to go.

Surat Thani: Located in the tropical islands at the tip of Thailand’s southern peninsula. This is a medium sized city, but still very popular. Surat Thani encompasses a vast majority of the islands off the coast of Thailand. Some of the more popular islands are Samui, famous for its reefs and wildlife, Angthong, famous for it’s National Marine Park, and Phangan, famous for it’s wild and crazy nightlife; especially it’s full moon parties once a month. It’s major activities are snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, partying, and relaxing.
