The British Museum

The British Museum, that great old institution with relics from all across the empire, including the Rosetta Stone and the Marble Sculptures from the Pantheon, has just had a 100 million pound makeover, integrating the old British Library Reading Room into the centre of the Museum.

An impressive new courtyard is the result, with smooth-to-the-touch stone all around. It feels a great treat entering the reading room, once the preserve of academics, now everyone can appreciate the great building.

A close up of the joint between the reading room (newly clad in stone), and the marvelous roof.
