How
do I backup my data to a PC?
Connect the supplied cable between your wizard
and the PC (Sharp recommends that both units be
switched off when you do this). The Sharp
supplied backup program will perform a simple
backup - for proper synchronisation (transfer of
entries to/from your wizard), use the supplied or
purchased Day-Timer, RuppLynx, Organiser Link 4
or X-Link/Win
software. You can use "Grabfile" to
Convert a Sharp 7xx backup file to Excel
compatible CSV files for data transfer and/or
recovery.

Is
it possible to use the wizard with
internet/email?
Yes. "WizTerm" can be used to connect a
modem to internet. It can display only text (no
graphics.) Using a shell account
this can be used to receive email. The modem
should be directly connected to the wizard using
a wizard to modem
cable. Refer to the OZdev.com knowledge
base document section for more information on
this.

Why
doesn't my Wizard turn on after I change
batteries or restore a backup?
If you've used Librarian of OZ and have large
amounts of ebook data saved, the Wizard could
take a very long time to
turn on after a restore or reset. This is due to
a bug in the Wizard's handling of
BASIC files. "WizBook" is a much better
E-Book reader. If
you have "Today in History" on your
Wizard, you will also experience a delay - but
only about 10 minutes. After the Flash memory has
reset itself, your Wizard will be fine. You can
wait or you can erase all the data on your Wizard
with [Power]+[Reset] (the [Reset]
button is on the bottom).

How
do I synchronize birthdays/anniversaries with the
PC?
You can't with DayTimer. If you have an
OZ/ZQ-770, you can download RuppLynx Express for
free which will do this with Outlook. Otherwise,
you can go for a commercial solution from www.rupplynx.com
or www.imslsoft.com.
Alternately, you can avoid using the
birthday/anniversary functions and just create
appointments and use "ViewWeek" to make
them repeat annually.

new one?
Synchronize your old one with the PC (e.g., using
DayTimer or RuppLynx or IMSLsoft--see the
previous two questions for more information), and
then synchronize your new one with the PC.

I'm
using Netscape Navigator 4.0. When I click on a
My Wizard file I get an "Unknown File
Type" error. What should I do?
Occasionally Netscape does not recognize the WZD
extension and cannot run the Data Loader.
Follow these steps to tell Netscape what to do
with your My Wizard files (you only need to do
this once):
1. When you get the "Unknown File Type"
dialog box press the "Pick App..."
button.
2. Click the "Browse" button and
navigate to the folder where you installed the
Data Loader and choose "
Download.exe" from the file list. The
default folder is C:\Program Files\Sharp.
3. Click OK.
4.In the Warning dialog box choose "Open
It" and deselect (remove the checkmark from)
the "Always ask
before opening this type of file" check box.
5. Click OK.
Once you do this, Netscape will run the Data
Loader when you click a My Wizard file. You will
be able to
download My Wizard files directly into your
organizer.

I
get a "This type of data is not supported by
your organizer" error when I try to download
a program into my organizer.
You are trying to download a program into an
older Wizard Organizer. The OZ-730PC, OZ-750PC,
and OZ-770PC are the
only models capable of downloading add-on
applications.

I
installed the Data Loader v. 2.02 soon after I
purchased an OZ-570. I just upgraded to an
OZ-730PC.
The Data Loader has been replaced by the
Downloader to accommodate the OZ-700 series
add-on software capabilities.
The new Downloader tool works with all My Wizard
compatible models.

When
I try to download certain datafiles into my
Wizard, I get this
Certain organizers have different built-in
applications. For example, some older organizers
have a 'UserFile' function. If
someone creates a MyWizard data file specifically
for this function, you may not be able to
download it
into your organizer. Most MyWizard data files are
schedules or memos which you will have no problem
downloading. When you click on a MyWizard data
file, you can check the field 'Destination' in
the window
that appears. If it says 'User File' then you may
not be able to download this particular file.

What
happens if I stop the download in the middle of
the transfer of Data files?
Some files may have been copied to your unit. You
need to go to the application and filter by the
appropriate category and delete what might have
been entered, if not you may have duplicate
files.

![](http://www.geocities.com/pcawizman/faq_files/spacer.gif) |
I
don't want the data to go to the miscellaneous
category, how can I free up a category?
By default, the "My Wizard" data will
be downloaded to an unused category. If you have
already used all of the categories, the data will
be loaded under the MISC. category. To reset a
used category back to an unused category just
rename it to the default, ex. (USER 3).

![](http://www.geocities.com/pcawizman/faq_files/spacer.gif) |
What
if there is an updated Data file? How can I
delete the list that is already on my organizer?
The easiest way is to filter the list by category
and then delete the old entries. After the old
entries are deleted, load the updated list.

My
Organizer will not connect to my PC?
Many times when problems are encountered it's due
to a conflict or configuration problem on the PC
being used. We recommend that the steps below are
taken in order to minimize the chances of
encountering PC based problems.
*Note* If you're not familiar with the setup of
your PC it is strongly recommended that before
disabling software, removing software, making any
hardware/software changes, or modifying the
settings of a serial port that you contact the PC
vendor or manufacturer of the PC for assistance.
Steps for checking the connection to your PC:
General
1) Disable all software based virus protection
software.
2) Disable all CMOS based virus protection
software.
3) Disable all hardware power management
features.
4) Run 'SCANDISK' to repair any errors on the
Hard Disk Drive (HDD).
5) Run 'DEFRAGMENTER' to defragment the Hard Disk
Drive (HDD).
Software
1) Close down all applications running on the PC.
a) Remove all program icons from the 'STARTUP
PROGRAM GROUP'
b) Disable any TSRs.
2) Disable or remove all alternative desktops
such as Norton® Desktop for Windows.
3) Disable all screen savers such as After
Dark®.
4) Disable active components of all utilities
such as Norton® Utilities.
5) Remove all ' Uninstaller ' or ' First Aid '
types of programs.
SERIAL PORT
1) Identify that the Com Port being used is a
Serial Port (either 9-pin male or 25 pin male).
Parallel Ports (Printer Ports) can not
be used.
2) If using the Docking Station for connection,
make sure the serial cable is securely attached
to the PC's Com Port.
3) Identify that the Com Port being used is both
active and set up correctly.
a) In some PC's, especially laptops, Com Ports
can be enabled or disabled through the BIOS. If
appropriate, identify that the Com Ports are
enabled.
b) Com Port conflicts can arise when a Port's IRQ
or I/O address's are being shared by another
device such as an internal modem, mouse, scanner,
or other external peripheral. The standard IRQ
and I/O addresses are listed below:
Com Port I/O address IRQ
COM1 O3F8 4
COM2 O2F8 3
COM3 O3E8 4
COM4 O2E8 3
c) IRQ or I/O address's can be changed via the
following procedures: WINDOWS®95
1) In Windows®95, click on the ' START MENU '
2) Select ' SETTINGS '
3) Select ' CONTROL PANEL '
4) Click on the ' SYSTEM ICON '
5) Select the ' DEVICE MANAGER ' tab.
6) Select ' PORTS (COM & LPT) '
7) Select the appropriate Com Port.
8) Click on ' PROPERTIES '
9) Select the ' RESOURCES ' tab.
10) Adjust the Port settings accordingly.
11) Restart Windows®95.
d) If the above procedures yield no success and
the Com Port seems to be set up properly and free
of conflicts it may be necessary to disable FIFO
buffers on your PC Com Port. WINDOWS®95
1) In Windows®95, click on the ' START MENU '
2) Select ' SETTINGS '
3) Select ' CONTROL PANEL '

7) Select the appropriate Com Port.
8) Click on ' PROPERTIES '
9) Select the ' PORT SETTINGS ' tab.
10) Select ' ADVANCED '
11) Un-check the box titled ' USE FIFO BUFFERS '
12) Restart Windows®95. COM Port If you still
cannot select the appropriate COM port for your
Organizer, you probably have IntelliSync for the
Sharp Mobile/Wizard Organizer running in the
background. Be sure to close this program before
attempting to install the Data Loader.
