A very warm welcome. Thank you for allowing me to say a few words in this column. Another forum of media has been introduced for the Royal Malayian Customs Department with the creation of this website. This increases the level of communication between the Teluk Intan Customs Office and the department's clients in disseminating information regarding laws, regulations and procedures. We hope the information found at this website will assist clients dealing with the Teluk Intan Customs Office. We promise to provide efficient, effective and quality service .
The State of Perak's history on ports can be traced back to the Portugis ruling era, with the construction of ports at Dinding and Kota Setia at the Sungai Perak. At that time the ports' main activity was to collect tax on tin ore exported from Perak and it continued throughout the Acheh, Dutch and English ruling. According to prof. Khoo Kay Kim in his history book 'Teluk Intan 100 Years", the first customs office was built on the year 1883. At that time , the customs activities concentrated on the exportation of tin ore and timber at the port. Foodstuff and clothes were its input commodities. When the Sungai Perak's banks began to erode, the Teluk Anson port was also affected by the erosion. The English Administration decided to overcome this problem by constructing a new port, a railway station, a warehouse and a Customs office on the year and it was completed by the year 1909. This where the Teluk Anson Wharf No.2 was known and is stated in the Customs Regulations. With the increase of the Teluk Intan's perfomance and activities, another new building was built. The Management Division, the Internal Tax and the Customs Division are located at the new building, whereas the Preventive Branch is still situated at the old building, at JKR 68, Jalan Maharajalela, 36000 Teluk Intan.
