Synopsis Big girl Tracy Turnblads dreams come true when she becomes a regular on the Corny Collins Show. She uses her new found stardom to steel her rivals boyfriend and to integrate the show and all the rest of Baltimore. |
Soundtrack A very fine and original sixties compilation! The only thing thats missing is Pias version of Day-O (The Banana Boat song) and thats a pitty. |
Awards Hairspray was nominated in six categories for the Independent Spirit Awards in 1989 |
Personal Comments In this great John Waters film, Pia appears as a beatnik chick who encourages Tracy to iron her hair and play the bongos. In 1988, Pia Zadora had earned already a lot of respect with her recordings of American standards and the critics and the public had forgotten about the Butterfly and Lonely Lady debacles. Shes outstanding as a beatnik and deserves every praise people gave her. A Broadway version of Hairspray is being prepared, with Harvey Feinstein in Divines roles. I hope that they dont forget to ask Pia. |
