"Strong Enough to Care"
The brothers of Pi Kappa Phi at UNC-Charlotte have long been associated with their organization of Push America.  Push America is a national outreach project of Pi Kappa Phi and it is set up to help raise money and awareness for people with disabilities.  Push America does things for people with disabilities from building playsets, decks, to their big bike rides.  The Journey of Hope, which is a bike trek across America, is set up to raise money and awareness for people with disabilities.  The other bike trek is called Gear Up Florida and it is set up to do the same as the Journey of Hope but it concentrates on Florida.

The Delta Lambda chapter at UNC Charlotte has been involved in every aspect of Push America in the year 2000.  In February, several members of the chapter went to Winter Park, Fl and helped build a handicap accessible playsets to help the autistic camp of Threshold Inc.  The experience in Florida was a life changing experience and it set me on fire for Push America and all its programs said Doug Smith Delta Lambda 576.

During spring break, several brothers of the chapter went to Push Camp as a spring break alternative.  The camp was in Jackson s Gap, Al at Camp ASSCA.  The brothers were involved in building handicap accessible decks, bridges, and storage buildings.  We worked hard for the whole week but it was well worth it when we saw those results.  Push America is a great help to that camp and I enjoyed the time there, said Jim Robinson Delta Lambda 574.

After the semester ended for the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi at UNC Charlotte, a couple of the guys participated in the Gear Up Florida bike ride.  Each man had to raise $1500 for Push America and people with disabilities to do the bike ride.  With the help of their fraternity brothers, alumni, friends, and family, the money was easily raised.  Gear Up Florida was probably the greatest experience of my life, I learned so much about myself and so much about people with disabilities, said Dino Taylor Delta Lambda 562.

In the fall of 2000, the Delta Lambda chapter participates in many different events.  They have been volunteering with the Arc of Mecklenburg County and the United Cerbal Palsy of Charlotte.  They also have been working to get guys money for the Journey of Hope and Gear Up Florida.  They have planned fundraising events all through the semester.
