The M4 Sherman medium tank was developed in 1941, and over 48.000 Sherman were built during the war's years, until 1945. There was a lot of different versions, as the original M4 was upgraded in many key areas, from thichker armour to better gun. The british themselves improved the M4 from the US, fitting the excellent 17 pounder gun instead of the original 75 mm, this tank named "Firefly". The M4A3 presented two main improvements, including a heavyer gun, 76 mm, and a diesel engine, which prevented the tank from easily exploding, a quality that made the german nickname the Sherman as: "the TommyCooker". Shermans were exported to almost any country, being the very first customer Israel, who used it in four wars, modifying the Sherman to the M51, with a 105 mm gun, being sold to Chile later. Israel still uses them as chassis for artillery or mortars (160 mm).
