Designed to be the natural replacement for the Challenger 1, 386 Challenger 2 have been ordered by the British Army, with deliveries running from 1993 to 2000 . Oman has ordered 18. The tank commander has estabilized sight system, french designed, while the shooter has a laser sight system designed by the british firm Barr & Stroud. Also, this system is connected to a improved thermic sight and fire system which makes it a very tough opponent in night combat. The fire control system is new, too, from the Canadian CDC industries. Also, the tank is equipped with a improved and complete NBC system.
