Cypraea fultoni -Sowerby 1903
Fulton's Cowrie
50.1-68.5 mm
Rare
Shell:
Animal: Not been recorded.
Region: South of Durban and North of Great Kei River, South Africa.
Habitat: Assume very deep.
Notes: One of the 3 or 4 rarest species of the larger cowries, and one of the most unusual, since most specimens have been recovered from the stomachs of fish. Seldom has even a fragment washed ashore, which attests to the depth at which it probably lives. Probably only 60 of these cowries have been recorded, and less than half of those are good specimens.
