ABRAHAM5 THORBURN (ALEXANDER4, ALEXANDER3, JAMES2, JAMES1) was born May 27, 1787 in Newbattle, Midiothiam Scotland, and died June 26, 1870 in Marietta, Ohio Captina Creek farm buried in Pleasan Hill Cemetery. He married LADY GRACE LYLE. She was born 1791 in Newbattle, Midiothiam Scotland, and died 1830 in Marshall County, West Virginia Fairview Cemetery. Notes for ABRAHAM THORBURN: Laws of Scotland at that time had a great deal to say about families and possessions of royalty. The story goes that in case of the dealth of Lady Grace Lyle Thorburn and sine her husband was not royalty, her family could take possession of her children and any lands they held. Lady Grace Lyle must have been ill for some time as her husband had sent the three oldest children to America. After the death of his wife, he came to America with his youngest child, Abraham II, Age 12. Abraham I, turned over his Scottish land to a certain lawyer by the name of Peter Alexander for him to sell and get the money to Abraham. Something happened that Abraham did not get the money at that time so he was in America without enough money to get his family to Wheeling, WV where his sister Iosbel Thorburn Garden lived. It is said that he borrowed the money from a Thorbrn relative. After they arrived in wheeling, they worked in the tannery of the Gardens in order to get money to repay the relative from whom he had borrowed. He later bought land over 200 acres of land on Captina Creek in Belmont County Ohio for $3000 from Peter Alexander and his wife Catherine. Abraham I, Axleander Thornburn and Abraham Thorburn II, and his wife Jane King are resting in Plesant Hill Cemetery, York Township, Belmont County Ohio. SUSAN6 THOBURN (ABRAHAM5 THORBURN, ALEXANDER4, ALEXANDER3, JAMES2, JAMES1) was born 1811 in Newbattle, Midiotbian Scotland, and died 1892 in Marshall County, West Virginia. She married ROBERT HENRY 1835, son of ROBERT HENRY and JANE STUART. He was born 1811 in Ohio, and died 1895 in Marshall County, West Virginia. Notes for SUSAN THOBURN: Born in Scotland. She married HENRY HUDSON MASON March 12, 1865 in Marshall County, WV, son of THOMAS MASON and RUTH LEMONS. He was born Abt. 1840 in Marshall County, West Virginia, and died April 21, 1975 in WeTZEL COUNTY, West Virginia at Home (Hog Run). Children of JANE HENRY and HENRY MASON are: i. He married STELLA FRANCIS TAYLOR Abt. 1905, daughter of HUDSON TAYLOR and SARAH FRYE. She died 1938 in Hog Run, West Virginia at Home. |
