Math

I started liking math in 7th grade, when I went to the math contest Kangourou, and I was the best in Romania. As a prize I went on a trip in Greece and on a camp in Romania, and that made me like math even more. In 8th grade I finally managed to get to the finals of the Romanian national math competition (in 7th grade I was the first "below the line"). I got 7th place and went further for the selection team for the international olympiads. After three hard tests, I was the 5th from a total of 25 and got to go to the Junior Balkan Mathematics Olympiad (which was held in Izmir, Turkey, 20-25 June 2003). I got there a silver medal, being 16th out of 60 with 29 points out of 40. The Romanian team was the first with 205 points out of 240.

This was the math in Romania. Since I came in Finland (august 2003) I have been to some other contests, starting with the MAOL contest (the national math contest of Finland) where I got to the finals in Helsinki and was the second with 53 points out of 70. Due to this I participated at the Estonian national math competition on 3rd of April 2004 in Tartu. I was there first with 35 points out of 35. Last contest in which I took part was the contest of the Nordic countries (1st of April). I got there full points too, i.e. 20 out of 20.

07.2005 -- The International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) 2005 was held in Mrida, Mexico, between the 8th and 19th of July. I was part of the Finnish team, together with Samu Alanko, Eemeli Blsten, Janne Kokkala, Ville Pettersson and Esa Vesalainen. My result was 18 points out of 42 possible, which got me a bronze medal. From our team, also Ville got a bronze medal.
25.10.2004 -- I qualified to the international team contest Baltic Way (official page of Baltic Way 2003)! I was told this at the math training week-end in Päivölä which I attend since my coming in Finland in the autumn of 2003 (it happens every sixth week-end). At Päivölä olympiad math is studied and also the Finnish international math teams are selected. The selection is based on a test and on solving certain problems (at home) in a certain amount of time - usually one set of around 15 problems per month.
