FIFA World Cup
The history of the FIFA World Cup was first written in 1928, when FIFA presidentJules Rimet decided to stage an international football tournament.The first international football match was played in 1872 in Glasgow between Scotland and England.As football began to increase in popularity, there are many competition were held.
The first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930, and the winner was Uruguay. Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2.The 1934 World Cupwas hosted by Italy, and was the first World Cup to include a qualification stage. 16 teams qualified for the tournament,Egyptbecame the first African team to compete. And alsoItaly won the tournament, becoming the first European team that won in FIFA World Cup.
From 1938 till 1950 FIFA World Cup was cancelled due World War II. And it started again in 1950 World Cup in Brazil, which was the first to include British participants. In this competition Uruguay became winner for the second time. And then for the next year was 1954 World Cup, held in Switzerland, it was the first World Cup to be televised. The world cup is held in every 4 years and held by different hosts of different country.
In 1982 ,there are many new rules of football.In 1982 World Cup which featured 24 teams, the first expansion since 1934. The teams were divided into six groups of four, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the second round, where they split into four groups of three. The winners of each group advanced to the semi-finals. For the next FIFA World Cup was held Mexico 1986 , Italy 1990 , United State of America 1994, And France 1998.
2002 World Cup was the first to be held in Asia, and was hosted jointly by South Korea and Japan.The tournament was a successful one for teams traditionally regarded as minnows, with South Korea, Senegal and USA all reaching the last eight. Brazil beat Germany 2�0 in the final for their fifth title. And then 2006 World Cup was held in Germany. It was the first World Cup for which the previous winner had to qualify,First seed and holders Brazil and second seeded England were initially English bookmakers' favourites. A strong performance by Germany brought them as far as the semifinals. In the final match-up was between Italy and France,there was an accident which French captain Zinedine Zidane was sent off in the last 10 minutes of extra time for a headbutt to the chest of Italian central defender Marco Materazzi.Italy went on to win 5�3 in a penalty shootout, the score having been 1�1 after 90 minutes and extra time.
Recently, The FIFA World Cup 2010 was held in South Africa. It was the first cup hosted on African continent, and the cup was won by Spain. This is the first time for Spain to be a winner in FIFA World Cup. As the FIFA World Cup held every 4 years, on 2014 FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil
