Background:
Kara Brightman was born to parents Helen and Alan Brightman as the eldest of three children. She was brought into the world during a massive storm that flooded the southern part of California in May of �78. During that storm, Kara�s mother went into labor and had no way to get to the hospital as her husband was stranded away from their house. Luckily a paramedic unit was able to get to the delivering woman.
Kara was a smart student in school and a bit of a tomboy as her two younger brothers always managed to get her involved in their play. She was very active in sports and when she entered college on an athletic scholarship. She played in basketball and softball, but her forte was in track and field.
In college, she became interested in joining the Air Force. Soon after graduation, she entered the service and found that she excelled in technology and especially computers, electronics and telecommunications. She was in the top of her class in Basic Training even amid the razzing she received from the males that dominated the areas she was most interested in.
Kara was invited to join the SGC when she was seen demonstrating her skills to a class of new recruits.
