+ Born Solomon Krakovsky on February 24, 1922 in Seattle, Washington, son of Russian immigrants
+ Served four years in the Naval Reserve in World War II
+ Acting debut was in 1946, in A Flag Is Born
+ Television debut was in 1948, on The Actor's Studio
+ Movie debut was in 1950, in A Lady Without a Passport
+ Married Selma Stern in 1951; they have four children
+ Has five children from a second marriage, and many grandchildren
+ Became Orthodox Jewish in the early 1960s
+ Lost a lead role in The Sand Pebbles (1966) because he wouldn't work on the Jewish Sabbath (Saturday)
+ Left Mission: Impossible in 1967, at least partly due to his refusal to work on the Sabbath
+ Did not do any acting for some time after Mission: Impossible
+ Lived in Rockland County, New York for several years, where he wrote, studied the Torah, and sold real estate
+ Returned to acting in 1978, in the miniseries King
+ Was the last original cast member to leave Law & Order (after 10 years!), though he was not in the pilot
