Receptor simples com o CI 74HC4066

Simple receiver with the 74HC4066 IC

Base board with the modules built and soldered getting a mechanic fixation and a common and efficient ground too.

In the VXO above the 10µH blue Sontag inductor it is the 7.15MHz ceramic resonator.

In the front end (band pass filter) in yellow is the ceramic trimmer, in green (similar to a resistor) the 4.7µH inductor (yellow, purple and silver)

The 74HC4066 is mounted with legs up.

The audio amplifier uses the LM1458, which is also mounted legs up.

The circuit

The receiver uses half of the 74HC4066, using a bidirectional switch (pins 10, 11 and 12) as a buffer and the other switch (pins 6, 8 and 9) as a mixer.

The 4066 works as an analogic bidirectional switch, that is, a signal goes from one side to the other (in both directions) pending on the switch control signal.

So a 7001KHz input signal suffers an interruption by the VXO signal say 7000KHz generating the 1KHz audio signal in the output.

In the output we will also have the 7001 signal and multiples and also the addition 7000+7001=14001...

This signals (RF) are removed by the 100nF (0.1µF) low pass capacitor connected to ground in the mixer output.

The VXO and the audio amplifier are our old acquaintances.

The audio amplifier circuit #2 shows some signifying changes from conventional circuits, because this way it is possible to get more than the 200 gain suggested by the manufacturer. In order to lower the power consumption we can put a 560 Ohms in the power line and raise the capacitor in this line (pin 6 LM386) to 220µF.

The gain is enough to drive a small loudspeaker.

The next prototype with the 74HC4066 uses an additional bidirectional switch : as oscillator.
