Suggested Guidebooks

Fodor's City Pack with full size color city map - features Top 25 Sights and the book is light and compact.

Frommer's Country Guidebooks - comprehensive country guides with recommendations for hotels, restaurants and sightseeing plus a color country map.   Frommer specializes in budget travel.

Bed and Blessings, Italy by June Walsh and Ann Walsh - contains listing and description of various hotels run by religious orders throughout Italy.  Many are in former monasteries and in the center of the city.  These hotels are inexpensive, very well run and quite comfortable.  The only inconvenience might be the 11:00 p.m. curfew at some of these hotels.

Rick Steves Guidebooks and Travel Videos - Steves specializes in introducing unique towns less visited by tourists and recommending the most reasonably priced hotels.  I especially like his new travel videos on Bulgaria and Slovenia and Croatia.  These countries will possibly be the most visited places in the near future.  www.ricksteeves.com
