MPFI systems are the way to go for the ultimate in fuel and ignition control.

Mass flow systems were used on MPFI GM vehicles until the late 1980's.  Until 1985, they used a signal from the distributor to indicate engine speed for a batch system.  In 1986, GM switched to sequential system that required crank and cam position sensors.  Sequential systems add a level of complexity that adds a quantum leap of cost to the upgrade.
