Up Products Discussion Automotive Show-Offs

Gas Injection Technologies was kind enough to supply us with photos of some of the cars they have modified.  They appear to have an excellent product with several others in development.  They may also consider people wishing to invest in their company.

They have converted a number of 5 litre V8’s in their Holden Commodore which used a locally produced engine but similar to a Chevy. They are just about to convert a 260KW 5.7 litre Gen 3 engine, which will test the system. A lot of their conversions have been 4 litre 6 cylinders, which are common in Australia, but they have converted 4 cylinder race cars using Haltech & Motec aftermarket computers and there is not reason why these systems can’t be used on V8’s.

The race car in the photo below is driven by Bill Campbell at Oran Park, it is a Toyota Corolla and is powered by a Toyota 3SG 2 litre twin overhead cam, 16 valve engine (used in the Toyota MR2 sports car).  It runs a Motec M8 computer, dry sump etc. It produced about 160HP at the rear wheels.  (Bill says that sponsors are always welcome!)

The two photos of the silver car below is a Holden (GM) Commodore Clubsport R8, it uses GM’s Gen 3 5.7 Litre V8 rated at 260 Kw.

As of February 24, 2004, Gas Technologies have just completed the conversion of the Commodore Clubsport R8 with the Gen3 engine (the silver car in the above photo’s).  As you can see from the graph, they gained 10 HP at the rear wheels from 245 HP on premium unleaded gasoline to 255HP on LPG using the GTi system!

The red car below is a hand built kit car running a Toyota 4AG 1.6 litre 20 valve engine. The owner needed injection because it uses separate throttle bodies and couldn’t be converted with a fumigation system.

Below is a photo of the engine during construction with the gas injection system fitted.
