| Gongsun Zhi is the cruel master of Callous Valley. The members of his family are important officials of the Tang Dynasty but after the collapse of the empire, the Gongsuns left and settled in a secluded stone fortress. The Valley is known for its Love-Me-Not flowers which are believed to be extinct but which thrives in abundance in the Gongsun gardens. The flower is sweet-smelling but it hides several tiny thorns that are very poisonous. |
| Gongsun Zhi has a wife, Qui Qian Chi (Lotus Blossom) who is the sister of Qui Qian Ren, the leader of the famous Iron Palm Sect. He has one daughter named Gongsun Lu'e, a shy girl with pretty features who falls helplesly in love with Yang Guo. One day, while gathering some herbs in the valley, Gongsun Zhi comes upon the unconscious form of Xiao Long Nuu (Dragon Girl). He is immediately struck by her loveliness and later asks for her hand in marriage. Xiao Long Nuu is still grieving over Yang Guo at the time and to help herself forget, she accepts his proposal. |
