Rotary's main objective is service, in the
community and throughout the world.
Some
US$90 million has been invested by
the Rotary
Foundation for educational and humanitarian
projects. PolioPlus is Rotary's commitment
to eradicating polio. By the year 2005,
it
is expected that Rotary's financial
commitment
for its polio programme will exceed
US$425
million. Its other major commitments
include
the 3-H Programme (improve Health,
alleviate
Hunger and enhance Human & Social
Development),
providing food and water resources,
literacy
and vocational training in developing
countries.
Its educaitonal programmes include
Ambassadorial
Scholarships, which is the world's
largest
privately funded sourceof international
scholarships.
Grants have also been awarded to university
teachers toserve in developing countries
and in international exchange. |
