Group 3:
The Chrysalis (Pupa) Stage
Your group is the Chrysalis.  This is the third stage of the life cycle.  You will need to research your stage and find out why you are so important. Go to the following website to find the definition of the chrysalis stage.
Write it down on the
butterfly paper for
discussion with your group.
At the link research your stage.  Find out and describe what it looks like and tell what happens at this stage. Write it on the butterfly paper and draw a picture of it.  You will use this information to discuss with your group and the class.

When your group is finished researching the Chrysalis Life Cycle then you are able to make the "Butterfly Emerging from a Chrysalis" art project.
Materials Needed:
Toilet-paper tube, popsicle stick, butterfly image, brown construction paper (pre-cut) 6" piece of pipe cleaner (you choose the color), markers, hole-punch, scissors, and glue.

1. Use the butterfly image provided, then cut it out and color it. Make both halves
    look the same.
2. Use the hole-puncher to make a hole at the top of the butterfly's head.
3. Glue the brown construction paper around the toilet-paper tube.
4. Take a pipe clearner (any color) and shape it like the letter "V". Put one point
through the little hole in thebutterfly's head and then twist it to look like antennae.
5. Glue the butterfly to one end of the popsicle stick.
6. Curl the butterfly's wings and slide it into the chrysalis (toilet-paper tube).
7. Pull the stick to make the beautiful butterfly come out of the chrysalis. Fly your
    butterfly like a real one!
