this section is divided into 2 parts animals You would find only in the Jungle of Schendi and animals You would find everywhere else.

 

 

Bosk A large shaggy, long horned bovine, similar in build to the Yak of earth. The bosk bears the heavier form of the buffalo of earth and like him, provides food, leather and most of the needs of the Wagon People of Gor. Bosk meat may be roasted or broiled, dried, stewed or served in a myriad of ways.


Dock Eel A black freshwater fish four feet long and weighing about 8-10 pounds. Carnivorous, they inhabit the shallow waters around the docks and wharves of river ports.

Giant Gint A larger version of the gint found in western Gor, similar in apppearence but with a 4-spined dorsalfin, is also amphibious and capable of walking on its pectoral fins as well

Golden Beetle An insect, roughly the size of a rhinoceros, which lives in the caverns below the Nest of the Priest Kings in the Sadar Mountains. Its prey is the Priest Kings

Grunt A large, carivorous, salt water fish which inhabits Thassa, it is often attracted to the blood of a wounded creature. Similar to the Urthen shark. also the blue grunt which is smaller but same attibutes.

Herlit A Gorean Eagle, it has a wingspan of six to eight feet, it is carnivorous, and has yellow feathers tipped with black, also called "Sun Striker" from its habit of striking with the sun above or behind it.It inhabits the Barrens.


Hinti A small flea-like insect. Unlike fleas they are not parasites.


Hith Huge python-like snake.

Horned Gim A small owl-like bird about 4 ounces in weight, which inhabits the forests of Northern Gor.



Hurt A kangaroo-like animal whose wool is used for cloth.

Kailla A mammal standing 20-22 hands high, with a long neck and covered with a silken fur; vicious from birth, deadly, sleek, carnivorous and fast. Capable of covering 600 pasangs (7/10 of a mile=1 pasang) in a day. The eyes are triple lidded against the sand storms of the desert regions. In the Tahari its long hair is used for rope.


Kailiauk Stocky ruminant, tawny with red and brown markings on haunches, having 3 horns; stands about 20-25 hands at the shoulder.


Kur A large 8-9 foot furred, mammal having four legs, which can stand upright or on all fours. Its paws had 6 multiply-jointed digits with retractable claws and an opposing thumb, so that it can grip. It has two rows of teeth. They are incredibly strong and ferocious. They are carnivorous, and like to eat humans.


Larl A large (7 ft. at shoulder) feline, tawny red or black in color, having a black mane; carnivorous; similar to a lion.

Leem A small arctic rodent, some five to ten ounces in weight, which hibernates in the winter... its furs are sold by the Red Hunters.


Lelt A small 5 to 7-inch blindfish with fern-like filaments at either side of its head which are its sensory organs. It is white with long fins, it swims slowly and is the main food of the salt water shark. It inhabits the brine pits such as those at Klima in the Tahari.


Marsh Gant A long- legged marsh bird with a piping cry. Similar to an Urthen curlew.

Parsit Fish A silvery fish with brown stripes.

Prairie Fleer A yellow bird with long wings and a sharp bill. Sometimes called the maize bird or the corn bird from the belief that it is usually the first bird to find food. A large hook-billed bird which hunts in the night.


Priest Kings Large intelligent creatures which control Gor from their nest/hive in the Sardar Mountain Range, only natural enemy is the Golden Beetle which feeds on them, by placing them in an almost trance like state, with an odor that is hypnotic to Priest Kings.


Quala Small, dun-colored, 3-toed mammal with a stiff, brushy mane of black hair. Plural=qualae.

River Shark A narrow, black, vicious, carnivorous fish with a triangular dorsal fin. It inhabits the rivers of Gor.


Salt Water Shark A long-bodied approx. 12 feet or more, a carivorous fish having gills situated under the jaw, several rows of triangular teeth, a sickle-like tail, and a sail-like dorsal fin. It inhabits the brine pits such as those of the Tahari.


Sand Flea Small parasitic insects found in the Tahari on kailla and similar creatures.

Sleen The deadly hunting dog of Gor..a cross between a weasel and a Kimodo dragon with fangs that drip a deadly poison. Six- legged and tenacious they can track a trail days old as if it were fresh...rending and killing the object of the hunt. Sleen are pack animals and cared for only by their Masters so that they are not befriended by the slave who may try to escape. There are four types of sleen: Black, Brown, the aquatic sea sleen and the white snow sleen.


Slime Worm A long slow blind worm which inhabits the caverns below the Nest and scavenges the remains of the Golden Beetle kills.


Sorp A shellfish, common especially in the Vosk River. Similar to the Urthen oyster it manufactures pearls.

Swamp Spiders Man sized spiders which inhabit the swampland near the City of Ar. They communicate in human speech by mechanical translators they wear around their stomachs. They spin cur-lon fiber, which is used in the textile mills of Ar.


Tabuk Swift gazelle like animals known for their sweet meat and speed... the Tabuk is generally served roasted.

Tarns Enormous relatives of the earth golden eagle..some with a 50' wing span, big enough to be
ridden..they are bred in 2 types...raceing tarns and war tarns

Tarsk Similar to the Urthen pig in form and ecological niche, they are not a favored food, having a bristly mane which runs down its spine to the base of its tail. They are carrion eaters, but are a staple among the rence growers.

Tharlarion Heavy, but swift these beast range nearly 40 hands in height..warm blooded reptiles...used in battle as shock troops, and a smaller bred cousin as draft animals on Gor. The Marsh Thalarion is not domesticated, but a vicious and voracious hunter. comes in different varieties the broad used as a draft beast the High Thalarion is like t rex two legged up right runner used in the Thalarion races in Venna river Thalarion in used to pull barges rock thalarion ia a small reptile that lives in the Tahari

Toos A crab like organism that inhabits the Nest and scavenges on the discarded fungus spore.


Tumits A large bird of the plains, about the size of an ostrich, it has an 18-inch long hooked beak and is carnivorous. It is hunted and eaten by the nomadic Wagon People of Gor. Traditionally hunted with bolos the sport lies in whether you or the bird gets to eat that night.


Two-Stomached Snow Lart A mammal with four legs, that is about 10" high, and weighs between 8 to 12 pounds. It hunts in the sun. The food in the second stomach can be held almost indefinitely. It is filled in the fall and must last the lart through the winter night, which lasts months. It eats bird's legs and preys on the leem.


Urts the size of a terrier, a small, silken-furred rodent akin to the Urthen rat; it has three rows of teeth, two tusks, and two horns.

Vart Blind, bat-like flying rodent, about the size of a small dog.

Verr A Mountain Goat indigenous to the Voltai Mountains. It is wild, agile, ill tempered with long hair and spiraling horns. It is a source of wool, milk and also cheese.


Vulo A small tawny colored bird similar to the Urthen pigeon. Used for meat and eggs, served roasted and spiced or baked in spice leaves.

Wingfish A tiny blue salt-water fish with four poisonous spines on its dorsal fin. It lives in the waters off Port Kar. Its liver is considered a delicacy in Turia.


Zad A large, broad winged, black and white bird with a long, narrow, yellowish, hooked beak, found in the Tahari. They scavenge on carrion, similar to the Urthen vulture.

Zadit A small tawny feathered, sharp billed bird of the Tahari. Insectivorous, feeding on sand flies and other similar insects. They often land on the kailla and spend long periods hunting the sand flies that infest that animal.


Zeder A small, sleen-like, carnivorous mammal which inhabits the rain forests inland of Schendi, especially along the Ua River; grows to 2 feett and weighs 8-10 lbs. It can swim very well, & builds a stick-&-mud nest in the branches of a tree, where it spends the night.

Armored Gatch : A mammal which inhabits the rain forests inland of Schendi simualr to the urthen armadillo.


Bint :A small carnivorous freshwater fish which inhabits the rivers of the rain forests inland of Schendi. A large school of bints can strip a carcass in minutes. Similar to the Urthen piranha.

Black Squirrels: Inhabitants of the rain forest.

Blue Grunt: A small carnivorous freshwater fish related to the Thassa Grunt and like its larger version is attracted to blood.

Broad Tharlarion: Sluggish tharlarion used as draft animals; herbivorous.

Crested Lit: A Crested Lit is a bird found in the rain forests of the Schendi.

Gint :A tiny six-inch freshwater fish which inhabits the rivers of the rain forests inland of Schendi. It has bulbous eyes and flipper like fins and is amphibious, having both lungs and gills; also its capable of walking on its pectoral fins.


Giani: A large mammal of solitary habits which inhabits the rain forests inland of Schendi. They are normally cat-sized panthers, not dangerous to man.

Ground Urt: A small rodent which inhabits the floor of the rain forests inland of Schendi.

Grub Borer: A bird that inhabits the rain forests of Schendi.


Grunt: A large carivorous salt water fish which inhabits Thassa it is often attracted to the blood of a wounded creature. Similar to the Urthen shark.

High Tharlarion: Agile tharlarion used as a mount for riding; like T. Rex, they have very short, almost useless,forelegs; carnivorous.

Hinti: A small flea-like insect. Unlike fleas they are not parasites.


Hith: Huge python-like snake.

Hooked Billed Gort: A carnivorous hunting bird of the rain forests of Schendi. They prey on Ground Urts.

Hurt: A kangaroo-like animal whose wool is used for cloth.


Jit monkey: A simian mammal which inhabits the rain forests inland of Schendi.

Jungle Gant: A bird related to the marsh gant, which inhabits the rain forests of Schendi simular to the urthen duck

Jungle Larl: Less dangerous to man, than the northern variety, inhabitant of the rain forest.

Jungle Panther:Less dangerous to man, than the northern variety, inhabitant of the rain forest.

Jungle Vart: A relative of the northern vart, it inhabits the rain forests inland of Schendi.

Jungle Zad: Related to the Tahari Zad, found in the rain forests inland of Schendi.

Leaf Urt: A small tree-dwelling rodent, having 4 toes, which inhabits the rain forests inland of Schendi.

Lit: A bird found in the rain forests of the Schendi.

Long Gim : An insectivorous bird that inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi.

Mamba: A large, predatory river tharlarion which inhabits the rivers of the rain forest of the inland of Schendi.They have long, log like bodies, with short powerful legs and a long snout and tail. Similar to Urthen crocodiles.


Mindar: A short-winged, yellow and red bird of the rainforests inland of Schendi. With its sharp bill it digs in the bark of trees for larvae and bugs.


Ost: Tiny snake, about 12" long, bright orange in color; its venom causes extremely painful death within seconds; the ost of the rain forests inland of Schendi are red with black stripes.


Parsit Fish: A silvery fish with brown stripes.

Ring Necked Wader: A waterbird which inhabits the rivers of the rain forests of Schendi.

River Shark: A narrow, black, vicious, carnivorous fish with a triangular dorsal fin. It inhabits the rivers of Gor.

River Tharlarion: Extremely large, herbivorous, web-footed lizards used by bargemen of the Cartius River to pull barges.


Slee: A rodent which inhabits the rain forests inland of Schendi.
