Right you will see a pair of pocket hoops made by Smiling Fox Forge. This garment combines two necessaries for the 18th century woman.  Pockets were used like today's "pocket"books, and a woman could carry anything she needed with her.  These hoops have pockets in them, seen in the right side hoop at the top.  They carrry ample amounts of things, including the reenactor's 21st century things-- cellphone, wallet, digital camera.
Bum rolls were padded rolls used to make the woman's backside poof out somewhat underneath her gown and petticoats.

Bum rolls were in use stince at least the Renaissance era. Like stays, the purpose of the bumroll is to give the illusion of wider hips, thereby also making the illusion of narrower waistline.
