WAYNE GRETZKY
"THE GREAT ONE"
Is Wayne Gretzky not the man?  He's my favorite player of all time.  He's done more for hockey than just about anyone else, except maybe Bobby Orr.  But Orr never played in L.A., and he certainly doesn't have the stats that Gretzky has.

It's too bad that I wasn't a hockey fan when Gretz won his Stanley Cups.  That would have been awesome to see.  He won four with the Edmonton Oilers in 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1988.  Those were some of the best years for the Oilers, and Gretzky wasn't the only good player for them back then.  Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Grant Fuhr, Kevin Lowe and Jari Kurri, just to name a few, all contributed to the Oilers' success.

Wayne's best years were probably his earliest.  He didn't win Rookie of the Year in 1980, but he did get the MVP Trophy and Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's scoring leader.  Not bad for an 18-YEAR OLD!!!  Two seasons later, he scored 92 goals and 212 points, clearly putting him among the best the NHL had to offer.  That same year, he scored 50 goals in an unbelievable 39 games (from the start of the season on).  No one else had scored 50 goals in less time.  All this, and he had yet to win the Cup.  He was quite amazing back then, and continued to amaze until his last game.
My Wayne Gretzky links will follow.  If anyone has anything he or she wants me to put on this page about Gretzky, just email and I will see what I can find.

This is a pretty good site, from the good ol' NHL.  Quite a few stats, photos, videos, all kinds of stuff.

This is what I consider to be the best Gretzky site on the entire internet.  Go there and see if you have a different opinion
USA Today Gretzky Tribute

Tons of news articles about Gretzky from the "fast food" of American journalism.
Wayne Gretzky's restaurant

Just one of the hundreds of reasons to go to Toronto.  I've never been there myself, so I hope they don't close it down before I go.  After you fill up on Gretzky's favorite foods, you could walk to the Hockey Hall of Fame and see the Stanley Cup!
