A Note on the "Canon":

The sources considered "canonical" are those either written or sanctioned by the people who worked on the series. Thus Star Trek novels are not considered canonical, while the Omnipedia (written be Michael and Denise Okuda) and the Interactive Technical Manual (Mike Okuda and Rick Sternbach were consultants) are.
