In a distant corner of the galaxy in the 24th-century, a run-down space station becomes a strategic outpost. In the series opener Sisko arrives at DS9 to oversee repairs, but while investigating the origins of a mysterious orb he finds himself trapped by an alien race. While the Cardassians threaten to attack the station, Sisko must attempt to communicate with the force that trapped him in the wormhole.
