As the episode begins, Voyager is still on the far side of the galaxy trying to find a way home when it intercepts a mysterious SOS. The signal leads the ship to a world where the crew encounters Amelia Earhart among eight humans who've been preserved by cryogenics. The aviatrix triggers deep emotions in Janeway, who tells her, "Because of you, generations of women have become pilots." Meanwhile, the crew is reluctant to leave the idyllic planet, displaying a surprising esprit de corps.
