"Don't expect too many smiles from Raven, she is a shadowy character with an even darker past. Raven has telekinetic powers that she is determined to put to good use. However the troubled X-woman is plagued by visions of the future and when the energy created by worrying can turn even metal to mercury she sometimes wishes her troubles could melt away as easily." - Toonami.co.uk

With her shadowy part, eerie powers and bad reputation, Raven is trying to be good, but she's desperately afraid that - deep down - she is pure darkness. Raven's telekinetic powers allow her to move objects with her mind and melt stuff just by thinking about it.
On top of not having full control of her abilities, Raven is also plagued with tumultuous visions of future events. No wonder she never smiles.

Raven is, without a doubt, one of the most complex characters in Teen Titans, though at first glance it may not seem that way. On the surface one would perceive her personality as distant, apathetic, cold and uncaring. She tolerates those who leave her to herself and is ready with a cuttingly sarcastic rebuff for those who try to befriend her. But as you continue to watch the series and learn more about her you realise that her ice-cold demeanour is just a facade.
Deep down inside Raven is terrified or herself. She carries the world on her shoulders.

Powers: Raven's powers are dark...literally! She uses her magic words "Azerath Metrion Zinthos" to conjure pure darkness which she uses to attack, move objects or create a solid surface. She often manipulates her powers to take the form of a huge monster Raven.
Raven also has the ability to heal small injuries and seems to have low level foresight skills since she was able to sense Terra's betrayal coming long before the others.

History: Raven's mother - Angela Roth was a mentally disturbed runaway with an obsession with all things dark. After meddling in things that she shouldn't she accidentally summoned Trigon the Terrible, a powerful extra-dimensional being who raped her.

Pregnant and almost at the point of suicide, Angela was rescued by an extra-dimensional pacifist cult and taken to the other-worldly dimensional world known as Azarath. There she was given a new name - Arella so that Trigon wouldn't be able to find her and soon after, Raven was born.

Despite the kindness Arella received on Azarath she was not permitted to touch or even see her child. Raven was given into the care of Azar - Ruler of Azarath who taught Raven to control her emotion linked powers.

When Raven was ten years of age Azar died and Arella was then allowed to care for her. At age 18, Raven traveled to Earth and joined a group of young crime fighters - The Teen Titans, and was finally able to use her powers for good although she is still constantly haunted by her inherited darkness.

Raven was the only daughter of Trigon's 1000 children who lived. The others were killed by Trigon himself or by their mothers.
