Below are a few poems written by family and friends. They have been comforting to me. I place them here with the hope that they may also be a comfort to you...

HEATHER SWEET HEATHER

For reasons unknown to us,
God has chosen this day as your last.
Leaving us survivors confused and full of sorrow;
trying to find some peace of mind.
We gently hear your whispers, soothing us and allowing us
to know you're at peace and not in pain.
Now you will always be here to watch over us;
Making sure life goes on.
Even though we are no longer graced with your
presence here on earth.
Knowing you would only want the best for all of us;
it's hard to go on without you.
Each day will be a challenge, but through our memories;
a part of you is still here.
In our hearts you will always be loved;
in so many ways.
We promise never to say goodbye,
for we will meet again.
Rest in peace with the lord,
we all love you.
your family and friends...

HEATHER'S POEM

We met at her birthday party, I was shy and thirteen.
She wore a baseball cap and the smile of a beauty queen.
Back then I never told her, but in my heart I knew;
I had found the world's greatest treasure, friendship that was true.
In junior high I was quiet, read books and joined the band.
She fell in love for the first time, and held a boy's hand.
Young and afraid of the world, she made me feel alive.
Back then I never told her, how proud it felt to stand by her side.
Sixteen years old, she pulled in my driveway with a car.
And where ever she was, I was never too far.
Long talks at night, full of hopes and dreams;
Only yesterday, at least that's what it seems.
We even traveled to Woodstock, dressed as hippies.
High school came and left, so many memories...
Back then I never told her, what was in my heart.
She meant so much to me, I didn't know where to start.
Eighteen years old, I left home for college and my future.
We hugged and cried and this is what I told her;
"I love you, our friendship means the world to me.
No matter where life takes us, in my heart you will be."
As the days went by, our bond only grew stronger.
Now I've lost my best friend and my future maid-of-honor.
Yet, all I can seem to do is bow my head and pray.
Because her family lost so much more than me, that day.
They lost a proud aunt, loving sister and beautiful daughter;
One of God's angels, the best that he could offer.
Yet, all I can seem to whisper, with the hours slowly passing by;
"Heather Nicole Rodriguez, I love you, you were one of a kind!"

REMEMBER ME

To the living I am gone
To the sorrowful, I will never return
To the angry, I was cheated
But to the happy, I am at peace
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So, as you stand upon a shore,
Gazing at a beautiful sea-
Remember me in your heart,
Your thoughts and your memories
Of the times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed,
For if you always think of me,
I will never be gone from your side

The Borrowed Gem
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I'll lend you for a little time,
"A child of mine," He said.
For you to love while she lives,
And mourn for when she's dead.
It may be six or seven years
Or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call her home,
Take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you,
And shall her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories
As solice for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I've looked this wide world over
In search of teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
I have selected you.
Now, will you give her all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call
To take her back again?
I fancy that I heard you say,
Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with tenderness,
We'll love her while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But shall the angels call for her,
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand.....
