BIRD-IN-HAND INSTRUCTIONAL SHEET, 1999

Here begins a new season for the Bird-In-Hand Hexers. We have removed some players in preparation for the future and next season there will be some removal of aging players. For this season the Hexers have removed Pat Lennon, Orlando Miller, Rafael Orellano, Giomar Guevara, Tim Naehring, Mike Bielecki, Cam Smith, and Justin Towle. There were some transactions during the offseason: Doc Gooden and Rich Rodriguez from Dauphin County rival the Heroes for Mike Timlin and swap 2nd round picks this past draft; the Purchase of Dante Powell from the Carpetbaggers for $4; and again going to Dauphin County trading this past drafts first round pick for the PU's first and third round picks for next seasons draft. Also, we claimed Phil Nevin off of the waiver wire.

And finally we traded with Savannah Cecil Fielder for Kevin Elster.

The acquisitions were done to fill holes this season, definitely short term purchases, except possibly Dante Powell. Powell was purchased in the hopes he can platoon next season with Allensworth in centerfield.

Stockpiling for the future, as yet still foggy when, the Hexers did not spend any cash retaining $36 for Y2K's draft. Having a week rotation and an ever increasing offense the Hexers are hoping at least to have 40 wins. This may in some eyes appear overly optimistic, but before the season everyone has a chance.(yeah right) So with our extra picks for next season and what should be a good cash pile we expect to have an improved team in Y2K.

Prospects is what we are focusing on, having drafted 6 young guys five of which are pitchers we are expecting to develop the arms and focus on offensive players over the next few years. Of course, not knowing whom will develop and whom will blow up in pitching may alter our focus in future drafts. And with that first introduction go to the new Hexer prospects in order of draft sequence: Aaron Myette, Adam Dunn, Clint Johnston, Jung Bong, Jason Middlebrook, and John Sneed.

Bird-In-Hand staff and information:

 GM: Peter Hess (and owner)
 Manager: Billy Martin (his ghost)
 Batting Coach: Ken Griffey Sr.
 Outfield Coach: Mike Greenwell
 Fielding Coach: Felix Fermin
 Catching Coach: Mickey Tettleton
 Pitching Coach: Danny 'Dr.Death' Darwin
 Bullpen Coach: Mike Bielecki
 Running Coach: Willie Mays-Hayes
Field: Combine Fields aka Cinergy Field
Radio: WLAN FM97 'This ain't no amish music'
Theme Song: 'Amish Paradise' Weird Al
 Sponsors: SKOAL & UPS

Yogi Berra retired during the off season so BIH has hired former Hexer Mickey Tettleton to serve as the catching coach. Also, Delta Sigma Phi has declined to continue support for the Hexers and UPS has bought on as a sponsor. (We get more money this way.)

One final note before going to the meat: GM Pete Hess has receive his BS in MET at PSU this past December, whom is currently studying for the EIT exam and interviewing for a prospective job. Which UPS is not the least possibility for a position.

You may ask why is an Engineer a GM? Simple engineers are good with all sorts of numbers and odd information. ie., why do you think aluminum bats hit harder than wood? Simple... density And why did Kerry Wood's arm fall off? Simple... karma

OK that's enough BS.

JULY 1ST CALL UPS

Same as injury call ups plus Koskie. (Use Sanders as mop/long and Fabregas as defensive substitute and pinch hitter.) For those of you whom use a carbon based life form to control the visiting teams here is some important information.

for possible home games if someone
gets injured, just so you know whom
I'll 'depend' on if the need arises.

After the July 1st call ups Bush will start occasionally to limit the PA's of Roberts to insure he stays within his PA's. Also, M. Ordonez will start occasionally in centerfield for Allensworth and Buhner will start in rightfield against RHP's.

These actions do not need to be followed for my away games.

Now for the fun stuff.

BIH Hexers Prospectus:

#1 Rick Ankiel, future LHP ace in roughly 3 years he get his first call.

#2 Aaron Myette, future RHP two or three starter in roughly 3 years.

#3 Corey Koskie, 3B power hitter with good plate discipline next season should take Zeile's job.

#4 Clint Johnston, LHP should be in the mix in 3 years or so, possible starter.

#5 Adam Dunn, OF Huge guy with speed and arm RF? just hope he doesn't get hurt playing college ball.

#6 John Sneed, RHP should get a crack in rotaion in 3 years, possible future rotation of Ankiel, Morris, Myette, Benes, Sneed or Johnston.

#7 Jason Middlebrook, RHP should get cup of java in 4 years could be a starter.

#8 Jung Bong, LHP possibly up in 4 -5 years hopefully 5 to develop properly, also has an excellent name relating to controversial paraphernalia.

#9 Pat Cline, C could be a good offensive catcher whom if he improves his defense could be seen next year in BIH

#10 Jhonny Perez, SS primarily could be up in 2 years with decent bat and good speed.

#11 Dante Powell, CF dark horse but whom should be a backup until something better comes.

#12 Dave Coggin, RHP with decent stuff and with Philly talking about improving there system for developing their farm picthers could become something.

#13 Chris Ashby, 1B whom could get a cup of java in 1-2 years or may be a career minor.

Kyle Kessel, LHP with recent past arm trouble has adequate stuff, probably bullpen duty in 3 years.

#15 Homer Bush, 2B will get most playing time for Jays will see if his plate discipline gives him bench status he's a question mark for the future.

#16 Jed Hansen, 2B will probably get a little bench time or full AAA time with Carlos Febles cruising past him, maybe he will be cut next year.

That is all from the Bird-In-Hand corporate offices in Lancaster County.
