Washington Carvefest 2007

Here you can see the few pictures I took at the Carvefest 2007.I didnt take the time to have people pose as I had very little time to take pictures as I was a class partcipant myself but what struck me and I try'd to capture it was the atmosphere of carvers working hard and taking advantage of this wonderful offering put on by the Washington Carvers and others. The range of classes was wide and offered something for the beginner to the advanced carver. There was Bark Carving, various Xmas ornaments,Canes,Teddy Bears,Inartsia,Power Carving and more!Frank Burghey and his wife Phyllis from the Cedar Bird Shoppe had a great selection of tools and accessories that covered what ever you might need or want.Bill Jaquays was there teaching classes and offering supplies. There were also T-shirts comemorating this event for sale also. Now take all that and add in a great lunch offered by the Center folks both days and we had more than one carver almost could ask for. This was the 3rd year for the Carvefest and it is growing and getting better every year and it was a pleasure to participate in it again.I hope you can make room on your schedule to attend next year and we look forward to seeing you there! As soon as dates are available for next years event I will post them here.Once again a big thank you to all the folks who were involved in putting this on and just a personal observation here but I call this making a difference!

Here we see the folks who took the Cane making class.Again this years cane class was done by John Sabina. The cane offered this year was based on chip carving and quite unusual and beautiful when finished. This was a great way to learn Chip Carving and cane making!By the way if you ever have any questions John has done some beautiful work with chain carving and will be more than glad to answer your questions.

In this pic 2 or 3 of the tables you see here are the Bark Carvers. This class becomes more and more popular every year.Directly beyond that were the Teddy Bear carvers. The Teddy Bear is composed of 6 movable pieces that remain movable when finished. This is another class that gains in popularity every year!

In this pic we have Bill Jaquays who can be found at many shows and events. What I have always found interesting about Bill's classes is he constantly has something new to try.Bill seems to always have a selection of those projects when finished people love ta see and talk about with you.Bill also carries wide selection of Denny's Tools. If you run across Bill stop in say Hi and introduce yourself and see what he has to offer!!!

This is my favorite pic!Frank had some health issues and is back with us offering that wonderful selection of carving tools and accessories that we have come to expect over the years.Frank and Phyllis have been doing the Carvefest since it's inception.I noticed this year there were many new items that ranged from book's to study sticks and much more.Frank and Phyllis can be found at many of the events around our state and will do whatever it takes to get you what you need.If you see them at a show stop by say Hi and get to know these wonderful people!

No idea whats going on here!I see Doug Evans and George Blanchard and Raz and the fella's obviously going over another fine point of making chips. As you can see the room is thinning out so this must have been Saturday towards the end of the day.On Friday the event was so well attended and there were so many people I couldnt hardly take a picture!

Last but not least here is a shot from the power carving class. The class was given by Jim Shannon and the bird to be carved was a Cardinal. This was the class I took and we had a great time and learned alot and even made some new friends. All I can say is what I gained over the course of two days is invaluable and will be used for many years to come!Thank You Jim!!!!
