The Mesquite Police Department

A History through it's Cloth Insignia

The city of Mesquite is located approximately 70 miles north of Las Vegas. The city was served by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department until they formed their own police department in approximately 1986. We hope you enjoy your trip through history.

This is the original shoulder patch. It has cut edges and measures 11 cm wide by 9 cm tall. It was worn for a very short period by only a handfull of officers.
The second patch changed radically. It and all of the succeeding patches have a merrowed edge. This one adopted the city seal in the center surrounded by a lasso. It measures 12.5 cm wide by 10 cm tall.
You must look closely to see how this patch changed. The rope and letters are larger, and the background color of the seal is a different color. It measures the same size as the previous patch.

The first circular patch maintained the brown color. It is 10.5 cm round.
The current patch changed to blue along with their uniforms. It is slightly smaller than its brown predicessor at 10 cm
The current badge patch measures 6 cm wide by 8 cm tall.
The K-9 patch was created when the first K-9 officer was introduced. It measures 9 cm wide and 13.5 cm tall. Mesquite now has two K-9 officers, but only the original officer is allowed to wear this special inaugural patch which bears the name of his faithful companion.

In 1998, Mesquite PD created an Honor Guard and appropriatetly, Chief Mike Murphy commissioned this patch. It is the same size as the current shoulder patch.
