Kim now attends Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy (CGA) where she trains with the rest of the CGA elite team. CGA is located in Fairfield, Ohio, and Kim moved there following the John Hancock Tour in the Spring of 1997 to help coach. Mary Lee Tracy and Steve Elliott are the main elite coaches at CGA, and Kim was right there alongside them at the 1997 Nationals in Denver, CO providing support for the other CGA athletes. In December of 1998, Kim started training all four events seriously again and proceeded to join the other girls as one of the team!

Kim used to train at Karolyi's Gymnastics in Houston, Texas with Bela and Marta Karolyi. She began there before the Karolyis even bought the gym when she was 6 years old, and trained there throughout her amateur competitive career (through 1996). Kim's summers were spent at Karolyi's Gymnastics Camp in Waverly Hills, Texas among Bela's exotic farm animals. Kim trained at Karolyi's prior to the 1992 Olympics, and again after she decided to comeback in 1994 for the 1996 Olympics. When Kim decided to comeback in 1994 she convinced Bela and Marta to return and coach her, along with Dominique Moceanu and Svetlana Boguinskaya. During these years Kim developed some great friendships among her teammates that she continued throughout the years.
