LIVE TODAY

Late yesterday afternoon, as I was driving to a meeting, the traffic became very congested, and slowed to a crawl. As it inched ahead, I kept checking the time, as it looked like I would be late. I came upon two ambulances and a police car blocking the right lane.

Glancing to my right as I passed the first ambulance, I saw a motorcycle at the edge of the street and a fellow on a stretcher. All of a sudden, I had a sick feeling in my stomach... Hey, I think that was Steve's bike. I pulled over and ran back to the accident.

It was Steve. He was strapped to a board and the medics were having him move his hands and feet. Then they put him in the ambulance and rushed off to the hospital. An elderly man in a big car behind him had "missed the brake and hit the gas in error".

I've been struck by the number of times I read about the importance of enjoying each day, each hour, each moment. Seeing Steve on the stretcher really made an impression on me and I wanted to share it with all of you.

You see, I ride a Harley. I travel that same street near the University of Washington in Seattle where the old man ran into the back of Steve on his Harley. It could just as easily have been me, and maybe I might not be as lucky as Steve (he's up and walking).

So, today and in my future todays, I'm going to remember to enjoy this precious life, I'm going to make sure that if my number comes up, I will not be caught with things unsaid, apologies unmade, hugs unhuged, help ungiven, and my life unenjoyed. Time on this earth is precious. I don't know how much more I have. Maybe decades.

Maybe seconds.

Stop and think a moment. If you were killed in an accident today, what would be your regrets. What would you have wished you could go back and do, but could not because your time ran out. What ever comes to mind, go do it!
