Main Characters
Kyoko Otonashi
Newly appointed manager of Ikkoku-kan (Maison Ikkoku), there she lives in the kanrinin's (managers) room of Ikkoku-kan. She has been trying to figure out how to carry on living after the death of her husband (Souichiro Otonashi) . Instead of forgetting her late husband, she name her dog's name same as her husband's (Souichiro-san), she still can't forget her past and try to remain as a widow just to be virtuous to her late husband. But Godai and Mitaka both trying very hard to win Kyoko's love. After going through lots of events, Kyoko finally makes a decision between the two of them. Godai's patience has been rewarded with Kyoko's love and their new born child, Haruka (female).
Hanae Ichinose
A middle-aged married woman living in Ikkoku-kan as a tenant togetherwith her husband and her only son, Kentarou Ichinose. She is a heavy drinker and a nosy woman from room 1 who dance non-stop during any drinking party. Together with Yotsuya and Akemi Roppongi they form the loon squad, often party at Godai's room 5 over midnight.
Nozomu Nikaido
(Mainly appeared in Manga) A curious boy move in to Ikkoku-kan by some mistake but change his mind after seeing Kyoko and also can escape his mother. The room 2 tenant was often setup by the mischievous Yotsuya, but somehow Godai suffered sometimes when Nikaido wants to take revenge. Nikaido sometimes is quite a unbearable person, as he always jump in to conclusions and spread out rumours on Godai. But he means no harm to anybody (maybe excluding Yotsuya), it just that he appears and speaks in unappropriate time.
Shun Mitaka
All the girls in the tennis club wished that he could be their lover. Mitaka, a handsome coach in the tennis club living in a nice apartment with uncountable sparkling, shining smile strive to get closer to Kyoko everytime every events. But his worst problem is his phobia of dogs due to bad encounter with it during young. The ways he tried to woo Kyoko backfired as Kyoko always has some affection on Godai. Meanwhile, Godai still struggling the fight for Kyoko's love till the end. But in the end, Mitaka married Asuna after the misunderstanding of dog pregnancy mistaken for Asuna's pregnancy. The couple feeling proud with their new born twin girls and a incoming baby towards the end.
Yotsuya
The most odd tenant in Ikkoku-kan room 4. All the regular tenants (Ichinose, Kentaro, Akemi including Godai) did not really knows what job Yotsuya is holding, not even Kyoko. But one thing for sure, he is a full-time peeping tom and also like to eavesdropping. However, he means no harm at all, maybe he like to create some irrating jokes or pranks that always landed on Godai and Nikaido in distress.
Yusaku Godai
A trouble and useless student with little finance has fallen in love with Kyoko since he first saw her. The tenant in room 5 is a clumsy (knock on to lamp post numerous times), indecisive and weak minded man and likes to daydream on the moment he and Kyoko spent together. Other tenants usually called him a ronin ( he failed his college entrance exams. However, all the setbacks he encountered motivate him to worker harder, and he hopes that Kyoko will be spendng the rest of her life with him till death. But things did not came out smoothly, there were misunderstandings along the path, and two ladies Kozue Nanao and Ibuki Yagami trying to get closer to Godai. However, his love towards Kyoko and help from his grandmother, Yukari strengthens his character and the trust between Kyoko and Godai.
Akemi Roppongi
A red-haired beauty who lives in Room 6 and likes to walk around Ikkoku-kan wearing lingerie. She works as a hostess at the ChaChaMaru (Cafe) and her love life is in a mess. However, after the marriage of Godai and Kyoko, she was proposed by the master of ChaChaMaru and moved to the second floor of ChaChaMaru.
Kozue Nanao
A former co-worker of Godai. Due to some misunderstandings, she believe that Godai was in love with her. Godai sometimes has to escape her approach but also use her to spite Kyoko. Kozue likes to bring Godai to her house to show her parents who her boyfriend is. In the end, she accepted her colleague proposal when she saw Godai and Akemi coming out from the hotel holding hands.
Ibuki Yagami
A female high school student who had a crush on Godai. It all happened when Godai was sent to her school to take up the teacher training program in his forth tear college. Her persistant ways of getting Godai's attention has made Kyoko to make a trip to her old school (same as Yagami). Due to some problems, she spent few times staying in Ikkoku-kan which created lots of trouble to the tenants especially to Godai and Kyoko. However, she still could not forget Godai in the end.
Asuna Kujou
A quiet, shy and beautiful lady. Fall in love with Mitaka during a matchmaking. However, Mitaka had a fear on dogs which belongs to Asuna. But in the end, happily married with Mitaka with a twin girls and a expecting baby.
