I do not yet know if the input is extant. I see that I headed this material "APPENDIX II" but I can't now recollect what it was an Appendix to. I am greatful to the Vanzetti's for preserving this input, along with my other discs and books, et al., from September 1999 to Augst 2004. ------------------------------------------------------------------ START RETYPE: APPENDIX II: Saying form Sheik Sidi Hasan al-Moumani, Allah_ye_arrachmo* [Notes (sa): Sheik Hasan lived at Balata. The following teaching, which constitutes his principle writing, was written by him in Arabic. It was translated into English by his wife, Maraiam al Moumani. It was written down by Imka, in the presence of the Sheik. She dictated it to me from her original copy 18 June 98 ( ), by telephone. I then read back to her what I had typed. I have not yet shown her the written text. Zvika and Imka live at Khatitja, which is outside Zfat. Khatitja is a mountain-top community, without electricity. Their telephone number is : 972---6--697-3093. Note (sa): May 98 -- Spoke by telephone to Imka, who, as I understood her, expressed the opinon that it would be ok to distribute this teaching to a Sufi List. She noted that the Sheik's full name is Sheik Hassan a Moumani. She remarked that his wife is ok, and presently living in Texas. She said he left only a few writings, of which this is the primary one; but that much of his legacy is included in this writing. She did ask that one check the correct English transliteration of 'er_arrachamo', which is the Islamic analog of 'zikaron l'brahca', the formal and courteous phrase which is used when speaking of one who has passed on. ] The text of the Sheik's statment follows: ================================================================== #p SAYINGS OF SHEIK SIDI HASAN AL-MOUMANI, ALLAH_YE_ARRACHHMO* "Bismallah Ar Rachman Ar Raheem:" To make clear to every scholar and to all who study And to every guide in the way And to every Muslim man and woman, and to every seeker in the way And to every human being And to myself ... [ punctuation by Sheikh or by Imka: not elision] That which is beneficial and that which is harmful to human beings in the realms of truth and falsehood. First -- good manners is above knowlege in station, in value, in every way. Knowlege without good manners is useless. One who has knowlege but has not good manners is a traitor to G_d and himself. Good manners is a diamond, and arrogance casts it away. Excellence of character/disposition is a diamond, and loss of modesty casts it away. Renouncing everything other than G_d is a diamond, and gossip casts it away. Humility for the sake of G_d is a diamond, and back_biting/slander casts it away. Presence, that is the presence of the heart with G_d, is a diamond, and deception, false pretenses, casuiing separation and differences, in order to build one's appearance, casts it away. Honesty, sincerity, is a diamond, and breaking one's promises casts it away. Guarding a trust is a diamond, and betrayal casts it away. Kindness and sympathy, spacious acceptance is a diamond, and self- centeredness casts it away. Origininally written by the Sheik in Arabic; translated by his wife in Engllish, in his presence. Contemplation of the work of G_d is a diamond, and nitty_gritty intellectualizing casts it away. Modesty is a diamond, and never being satisfied, always taking more, casts it away. Remembering G_d at all times is a diamond, and love for the world casts it away. #p Right action is a diamond, and forgetfulness casts it away. Pure mind is a diamond, and anger casts it away. -------------------- The pure mind is the dwelling of justice, balance, pleasant words, generosity, and discrimination, and it is the pillar of contemplation, the vehicle of rememberance, trasmitter of the secret, and guidance to understanding. ================================================================ One must be within G_d [Arabic wrods from the Sufi prayers: billah ] content, for there is no Being but He. In G_d [ Allah ] is His Guidance, hope, and success. And know that from G_d [min-Allah] comes everything: ease, and hardship. Upon G_d [Arabic-ayin-al-Allah] is His trust. He must be with G_d [ma [Arabic character: like a handwritten e -- Arabic ayin] -- Allah], for G_d is with him. About G_d [Arabic-ayin, an-Allah] are all of his words and actions. And for G_d [lillah] are all of His deeds.
