Tazewell Co 1850 census lists his occupation as that of teacher. He was once called a District Supervisor.

Notes for ELIZABETH JANE HUDDLESTON:

Her father gave permission for the marriage only if George would promise never to take her away. In return they would never want for anything. But, after a few years he persuaded her to leave with him in the night. They fled to the wilderness of McDowell Co. He took up land that was rich in coal--all the land from Coaldale to Pocahontas, VA on both sides of Elkhorn Creek. Later he let a man trick him out of it for almost nothing.
