The last Final Fantasy to grace the Playstation One console. This FF hit is a mixture of the new and old. The age of the crystals comes back into play and the ever popular princess in distress concept. The storyline is deep and revolves around the lucky lead for the ninth Final Fantasy masterpiece, Zidane Tribal.  Our furry-tailed hero is hip and bold, everything Squall will never be (sorry FF8 fans, but it's true). He and his "family" of mischievous thieves known as Tantalus, are on a mission to kidnap the heir to the throne of Alexandria, Garnet til Alexandros 17th. As it turns out, the unhappy princess is very willing  and demands Zidane kidnap her at once! Her growing concern for her (very ugly) mother pushes her to seek help outside of her kingdom. This starts their crazy adventure, through war, strife, and maybe even a little blossoming romance. (If Zidane will only lay off the lame see through come-ons.) **See Garnet and Zidane on my Fav couple page!**
Like Final Fantasy VIII,. IX is a four disc adventure. However, these discs are reletively shorter than first thought, mainly because there are so many movies. The movies themselves are breathtaking and give even more depth to this complex story. As always there are plenty of side quests, and everyone's favorite FF symbols, the chocobo and mog. Actually, the mogs themselves are the save points so better respect their presences. This game just made the Playstation Greastest hits list, so that means it can be picked up for $20 brand new. The soundtrack itself is worth getting, not quite as good as the all powerful FF7's music, but still great.
Down bellow, I give a few do's, don'ts, and 'some get you by' pointers, mainly for beginners. Want some detailed info? Then head to the FF Insider! They have great detailed walkthroughs and plenty of other goodies to help with the game.
Some things you should know:

You aquire magic in skills by gaining experience with a certain armor or add-on attached. For example, Garnet learns Bahamut when she gains full experience through the Garnet add-on gem. Pay close attention that your character has aquired all the skills the armor offers before switching to higher armor.

You gain no experience from main bosses, only AP. So you have to do some major fighting outside of boss battle to be at a high enough level to beat them. Want a great headstart at it? Don't lave the Evil Forest until you're at least level 5. After that, its easier to level up so it seems.

Another different thing about FF9 with experience - it's divided evenly among your current party. If you kill a monster worth 300 experience and have 3 people in your party, that's 100 each. If two members of your party die in battle, the living one gains all 300 experience. This can be both great and bad..depends on the situation.
It's all about the Trance baby ^.^

Trance is similar to the Limits Breaks of Final Fantasy VII, but slightly different concept. Bouts of anger and emotion trigger Trance. The meter on the right of the screen tells you just how close your character is to "losing his top" When they get pushed to far, a complete tranformation occurs, completely altering the characters appearence and power. For most characters, a whole new batch of abilities is now avalible. Take full adavantage when this occurs because building up Trance is a lengthy process and unlike FF7, you can't just save it for later. But, it does last usually about 3 turns.
I hope I could at least give you some starter pointers. If I was running a strictly FF9 site only, I could help you out but alas..I took on the job of covering as many anime type topics as possible. For lots more help, check out FF Inisider..believe me, you WON'T be disappointed. That's a Yume Otaku promise.
