The sequel to Squaresoft's hit RPG, Chrono Trigger. This RPG is similar to the Final Fantasy series yet there are many aspects that just simply set it apart. Both series are superior for indepth RPG playing, awesome CG graphics, and excellent music soundtracks.
Serge is an ordinary kid living in a small fishing village called Arni. He's had a pretty much normal life, despite the time he almost drowned when he was little and his father died around the same time. His childhood friend, Leena, has always has a strong bond with him. One day, she asks him to gather some Komodo scales so that she may make a necklace out of them. They meet afterwards at their usual hangout, Odessa Beach. This is where Serge's life suddenly takes an unexpected twist. He is somehow drawn into a weird dimentional tear and transported to a whole new world that looks identical to his own. There's only one major difference...in this new world, Serge doesn't exist. He did drown in that accident when he was young and nobody in his own village recognizes him. Soon after, he is attacked by strange men that seem to be aware he is merely some sort of ghost from another time. A young girl named Kid joins him and together they start on adventure to find the truth of Serge's existence that's somehow linked to the very person Kid wants to destroy- Lynx.
What sets Chrono Cross apart from Final Fantasy? Well, just as in Chrono Trigger, there are many, many different paths and characters that can be recruited in your adventure. Chrono Cross has about 40 playable characters in all, making it impossible to get them all by only playing through once. There are two main endings while there are about 8 different mini ones. I have yet to beat the game myself to be honest, but I am at the final end guy, I just need to do some sidequests and beef up some.
The overall challenge of the game in about that of Final Fantasy IX, meaning that if I can get to the end or beat it, most people can.
The fighting style of the game is one that takes some getting used to, but I like it overall. You just have to get used to the stamina and magic and tech skill levels to master the fighting properly. Most of the tech skills are very impressive, especially the level 7 ones. Finding them for each character is going to be quite a task though.
The storyline is a confusing one. It doesn't help that I haven't played through Chrono Trigger. There are evidently lots of connections. I can make out a few but I need some fill in from those who played Chrono Trigger. I recommened starting with Trigger, then Cross will make much more sense. It's deep enough on it's own .
