Cardcaptor Sakura
Sakura Kinomoto is just an adorable 4th grader living with her father, Fujitaka, and her annoying brother, Touya. Her mother, Nadeshiko passed away when she was only 3. One night she has a strange dream. Sakura finds herself standing apon a building in a very frilly looking outfit, a small animal at her side. She stares at Tokyo tower as cards float aimlessly through the air. The dream perplexs her and she can't seem to let go of it. Even weird still is when she find an old book called 'The Clow' in her father's study.
Inside the strange book, she finds a deck of old cards with figures and english words on them. She reads the top card, 'Windy', and a huge gust of wind blows the remaining cards away, scattering them all around town. The beast on the front of the book awakens, in a weakened form, and turns out to be the small animal from her dream. After discovering the cards have been scattered, the animal named Keroberos charges Sakura with reclaiming them, calling her a Cardcaptor. Can Sakura recature the cards before the diaster Kero forclaims comes to be? And how will her rival for the cards, Shaoran Li, get in her way?

Cardcaptor Sakura is an all-too-cute series by CLAMP, makes of Rayearth and Chobits. Sakura is adorable and honest, just how most magical girls should be. The devolpment for the story in most ways is pretty basic but as in just about all CLAMP creations, there are strange twists. The first really shock is Shaoran evident attraction to Touya's best friend, Yukito. So not is he only a rival for the cards, he's Sakura's rival in love, so it seems. A few more odd relationships pop up along the way, but I dun want to ruin any surprises..
Cardcaptor Sakura is avaliable in America through Pioneer. They have 4 episodes to a DVD for a retail of $29.97. Usually you can find them cheaper at places like Best Buy and Media Play. It's subtitled Japanese only. That's because the dubbing was cut up so damn bad, it make's DiC's dubbing of Sailormoon seem like nothing to blink an eye at. My suggestion? STAY FAAARRRR AWAY from the dubbing. It's horrible done, bad voice acting and MANY cut episodes. Now if you don't have the 30 dollars times about 16-17 volumes, there are bootleg sets avalible as well. I got mine of of eBay for $35, all 70 episodes and for the price, it's just an awesome deal. There are also 2 movies, both avalible from Pioneer as well. I suggest just going with the American  releases on those. They're worth the money.

The graphic novel is also been released. There are 12 volumes and it's been published by Tokyopop, who are just about the best there is in American language manga. They are re-releasing them in original right-to-left fashion. They run $9.95 retail. You can find them a bit cheaper in online shops, but unless you're ordering alot of stuff, the shipping makes ordering them that way pointless and they might come creased or bent. They are some differences from the anime and manga. Two big ones being the ending of the series, and another being the amount of Clow Cards there are. So I suggest getting both :)
