Welcome to Sam's Dive Site

Thanks for looking me up! I'm Sam Kirby and this is my personal site.
This is mostly quite old but might still be interesting, so I've left it up. I wrote it before I knew Dreamweaver so excuse the rather 90s look and feel. One day, I'll redo it. For now, if you want more recent info, find me on Facebook or check out the SaltFree site . On here you'll find dive stuff, a list of my former students and far too many pages of rather vaguely connected bits of writing, basically thoughts, words, poems and quotes that meant something to me. Bear in mind, I've been collecting it since I was 15....

Scuba Diving off Cornwall

For those of you who don't know me, I am a PADI Course Director, AIDA Freedive Instructor Trainer and run the UK's busiest free dive club SaltFree. You are most likely to find me at the National Diving and Activity Centre in Chepstow with SaltFree, off the Cornish coast and back in the Red Sea from time to time. I scuba dive and freedive for fun when I can but also teach freediving from beginners up to AIDA Instructor level.
I also compete, judge and organise competitions. In the last few years I've entered AIDA competitions in Cyprus, UK, Hawaii, France, Hungary, Egypt and the Netherlands. In 2004 I was Captain and Coach to the the UK National Freedive Team at the AIDA Worlds in Vancouver. Together with Laura Harris and SaltFree, I also ran the UK Freedive Championships in 2004, 2006 and 2007. I amazed myself by winning the Hungarian Nationals in 2005 and in 2006, I was in the UK Squad for the AIDA World Cup in Hurghada.

July 2008 sees the fifth birthday of SaltFree and our fourth major competition, the SaltFree Double Dip, a Constant Weight, Free Immersion and Constant Weight No Fins Competition taking place at Chepstow. Have a look at my free diving pages for more information - click on the link at the bottom of this page.

Poems, words, and amateur philosophy, most of it "borrowed".. but credited, some of it home grown but not admitted to.It was all in a beaten up old notebook and probably should have stayed there.

Deepest Bear

His exploits between about 2003-2006 are fully documented and photographed for all to see. Let's not talk about his Canadian base-jump....
