All About Blush
- While choosing the right shade of blush seems difficult for most, getting it right is surprisingly simple.

- Your perfect blush shade is the colour of your cheek when you are flushed or exercising.  That is the most critical aspect of blush.  The lighter your skin is, the lighter your blush should be.  The darker your skin the deeper the blush.

- Matching blush tone with lipstick colour may sound like advice from your girlfriend, but this is one beauty rule worth following.  (It was once common place to rub a little lipstick onto the cheeks for a lift of colour - the original perfect match).

If the lipstick colour is:                               Use the colour blush:

Red                                                              Reddish or pink
Rose                                                             Rose
Pink                                                             Pink toned
Coral or orange                                            Peach or Apricot
Bronze                                                          Bronze
Brown                                                           Pink, orange, or red depending on the
                                                                     understone of the lipstick

- To apply:

- The brush that comes with most blush compacts should be thrown away.  Its too skinny to allow an even sweep of colour.  Instead, use a separate blush brush that is full and tapered at the sides.  There are two key phrases I use over and over when I talk about blush.

-
Apple of cheek: Area of the face where you should be applying your blush.  To find your cheeks apple, smile in an exaggerated way; the fleshy lifted part of your cheek is the most natural place to put blush.
-
Pop of Colour: A second coat of a brighter blush.

- Use your blush brush both to apply and blend your powder blush. (This is one instance when you should not use your hands to apply makeup; you risk removing most of the powder you have applied).  Dip brush into powder blush; blow off excess before you start.  Apply blush first to the apple of your cheek.  Blend up and back towards your hairline, but also blend it down away from your cheek - bone for a more natural look.  If you have high cheek bones, focus blush on the centre of your face, closer to your nose.  Conversely, if your face is wide or full, concentrate blush closer to your hairline, away from the centre of your face.
