Christiana CLAYDON
Father: Samuel CLAYDON
Mother: Dinah BUCKLE
Christiana Claydon (1845 -1936) was the fourth child of Samuel Claydon and Dinah Buckle and the last of the four children born to them in England before emigrating to Australia in 1848, she was 3 years old at the time. She was born in 1845 at Kirby-Le-Stoken, Essex England.
At the age of 14 she had an illegitimate daughter, Lucy at a place called Huthfield. The Baptism records of Mt Vincent show Christiana Claydon as a single woman who was living at Government Flats (near Buchanan today).
At age 16 Christiana married James Hadley on 12 March 1861 at St Peters Church East Maitland. They had 19 children.
James and Christiana came to Coopernook on Tagg’s Timber Barge in the early 1870s. They moved to Forster where James worked at Breckinridge’s Mill and Christiana worked as a midwife. They lived around the Bennett’s Head area.
She died on 1 January 1936 aged 91 and is buried at Forster NSW with husband James and children Isabella, Edwin and Abraham.
Some of their children emigrated to New Zealand.
