Ingredients: 1 tbsp butter or margarine
1 cup all purpose flour
2 egg whites, lightly beaten
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
1-1/4 tsp anise extract
1/8 tsp salt
Directions:Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Combine butter and sugar, mixing thoroughly. Once everything is thoroughly combined,
mix in the egg whites and anise extract.
In another bowl, combine the
remaining ingredients.
Add to first mixture, stirring until
well-blended.
Gently knead the dough on a lightly floured surface. Shape
the dough into a long roll and place on a greased baking sheet. Flatten the dough to about
1 in. thick and bake for 15 minutes.
Place on a wire rack and let cool for 8-10 minutes.
Cut the roll into 1/2 in. diagonal slices and place the slices on a baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes.
Turn cookies over and bake an additional 10 minutes.
Place on wire rack and let cool completely until the cookies have hardened.
