Grilled hot dog pizza

Have all toppings ready to go because the crust will cook quickly. If the crust is cooking too fast, move the pizza to a cooler part of the grill or reduce the heat.

If you don’t want to grill the pizza or if you don't have a grill, the pizza can be made in an oven following the directions on the pizza crust can.

Ingredients:

1 can (8 oz) pizza sauce (1 cup)
5 hot dogs, cut into 1/4-inch slices
1 can refrigerated thin style pizza crust
Cooking spray
1 1/4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (5 oz)

Directions:

Heat a gas or charcoal grill.

In 1-quart saucepan, heat pizza sauce and hot dogs over medium heat until hot and keep warm.

While the pizza sauce is warming up, cut a 18x12-inch sheet of heavy-duty foil and place on top of a large cookie sheet.

Spray the foil with cooking spray and unroll the dough onto the sprayed foil. Starting at center, press out dough into 13x9-inch rectangle and spray dough with cooking spray once it is evenly spread out.

Invert dough rectangle directly onto grill rack and peel off foil. Return foil to cookie sheet, sprayed side up.

Cook the dough uncovered on a gas grill over medium-low heat or on a charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from medium-low coals 2 to 4 minutes or until bottom is golden brown. (Watch carefully to prevent burning.)

With wide metal pancake turner, turn crust over and cook 1 to 2 minutes longer or until bottom is set but not brown.

Carefully remove the dough from the grill and place browned side up on foil. Close the grill to keep it warmed.

Spoon the hot pizza sauce mixture over crust, add the hot dog pieces, and sprinkle with cheese.

Slide pizza from foil onto grill. Cover the grill and cook for 3 to 6 minutes longer or until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted.
