Round Up' 81
JFK Stadium

Round Up '81 was held at JFK stadium in Philadelphia, which is not there anymore. It was an all day event, which meant partying all day long. Once again I went with my younger brother Tom, since he was starting to enjoy Marshall Tucker as much as I was.

This concert reminded me of the first time that I saw MTB which was at the Miami stadium in Florida along with the Outlaws and the Charlie Daniels band. I think that it was in 1975 or 1976!!

The speaker tower at JFK

The sound at the Roundup was incredible, as you can imagine with speakers about three stories high. The crowd was between 90,000 and 100,000 people all bringing coolers in with them. What a thrill it must have been for the bands to play in front of that many people.

I saw my sister there out of that many people. I went out about half way through the concert to bring back a cooler full of beer, and walking past a group of Philadelphia police officers I dropped the cooler with beer falling out everywhere. The police just laughed, so I picked upthe beer and headed back in to catch the MTB.

The jam at the end was awesome with Dicky Betts, and Hughie Thomasson from the Outlaws joining the MTB to end one of the best concerts that I have ever seen.
