This tale of a boy, a legendary seal, and the hunters after her valuable pelt . Set in the Aleutian Islands, the story begins with a lonely 10-year-old (Torquil Campball) in search of a pet. Instead he finds the real-life embodiment of a mythical golden seal purported to have deserted the human race because of its greed. With a huge bounty on her head, this seal of native lore returns to be hunted down again, this time with only the boy to protect her and her newborn cub.
The true story of an orphaned newborn seal who is nursed back to health by the Whitney family of Rockport, Maine. In winter, when the local harbor freezes over and the waters become dangerous, the Whitneys place Andre in the Boston Aquarium. The plan is to release him in the spring to embark on an ocean journey heading south with the other seals, but to everyone's surprise the loyal creature makes the 400-mile trek back to Maine.
Pinnipeds  are marine mammals who live mostly in the water but spend some time on land or ice (usually to reproduce or rest). Like us, they are mammals yet equally at home in the sea as on land. Sea lions, seals, and walruses make-up an order known as pinnipeds- meaning "fin-footed." There are 33 species scattered across the world's oceans and rivers living in an amazing diversity of environments.  One of the most playful and intelligent of the pinniped species is the California sea lion found off the rocky coastlines from Mexico all the way north to British Columbia. The largest pinniped in the world is the elephant seal which can grow up to 4-5 metres long, whilst the smallest is the Baikal seal which is only up to 1.3 metres in length.  The California sea lion is the fastest pinniped and can go at speeds of 25 miles per hour in the water.
