I'm OK

While we could feel September 11's Pentagon explosion from PBS headquarters, no one at PBS was injured in the attack. I'm thankful that none of my friends in either Washington or New York was physically hurt.

I live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and work full-time at PBS's headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. I work primarily with stations that use PBS Team Approach fund raising database software.

My partner in life and love is Alejandro Amezcua. He works for the C. S. Mott Foundation in Flint, Michigan. We met in 1999 when Alejandro was a Jane Addams Fellow at the IU Center on Philanthropy.

I'm blessed with many wonderful friends, and together we attend lots of theatre, symphony, drama, vocal, and dance performances. In Washington, I attend most performances of the Washington Men's Camerata and the Woodley Ensemble. In Indianapolis, I sang with the Indianapolis Men's Chorus, a predominantly gay ensemble and a member of GALA Choruses International. I hail from the New York City area (in Wilton, Connecticut actually) and travel frequently, both for work and to visit friends around the world. My parents now live in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.

Here is a photo of me, taken on graduation day in May 2000.

In May 2000, I graduated from the Master of Arts in Philanthropic Studies program at Indiana University, taught through the Center on Philanthropy at IUPUI (the joint downtown Indianapolis campus of IU and Purdue University). I'm also a 1992 graduate of Bucknell University with degrees in English and computer science. All my work experience during college was in television broadcasting (at WTNH-TV 8 in New Haven and WYOU-TV 22 in Scranton).

Until December 1998, I was Manager of Major Gifts at WFYI, the Indianapolis PBS and NPR stations. After WFYI, I worked for myself for 18 months as a consultant to nonprofit organizations. One of my clients was the Central Indiana Community Foundation, where I coordinated a statewide arts grant-making process. Another client was Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity where I did freelance writing and graphic design work.

Some of my friends with homepages include writer and karaoke sensation Rob Schroeder, entrepreneur, metallurgist, and radio personality Janine Weins, academician Steve Sanders, London-based American English teacher Colin Bridgewater, poet chef Terry Kirts, and singer and web designer Eric Westby who designs Atlantic Monthly's website. There must be more than just those few, though! If you're a friend who has a homepage, please let me know and I'll add it here.

Some of my favorite web sites include The New York Times, Salon (where I encourage you to buy a Premium Subscription), US Airways, Weather Underground, NPR News, The Onion, and The Washington Post online.
